TUXEDO, NY - Chele Farley, Republican and Conservative nominee in New York’s 18th Congressional District, has called on Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance to reconsider his decision to not prosecute the individual who helped deface St. Patrick’s Cathedral amid riots and protests in New York City.

“St. Patrick’s Cathedral has served greater New York City, including my district in the Hudson Valley, for well over a century. It is one of the most iconic houses of worship in the world, and has welcomed millions of visitors from all backgrounds over the years. No matter where you stand regarding protests and the current social climate, defacing a religious symbol that represents peace and unity is reprehensible. Lawlessness is rampant and no boundaries are being enforced. District Attorney Cy Vance, I urge you to reverse your decision and immediately prosecute all of those connected to this act of vandalism, and send a message to any bad actor looking to deface a sacred institution,” Farley said.

The vandalism of St. Patrick’s Cathedral was part of a spree of violent and destructive incidents in New York, in response to the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.
