TUXEDO, NY– Chele Chiavacci Farley, the Republican and Conservative nominee for Congress in New York’s 18th Congressional District, calls on Congress to act now to refill the coffers of the Paycheck Protection Program. Farley released the following statement.
Farley said: “The CARES Act was designed to help workers who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own and to keep small businesses open. The Paycheck Protection Program is a critical program that provides forgiveness-eligible, Small Business Administration (SBA) loans to small businesses who need them now more than ever.”
“The $349 billion appropriated for this fund ran out yesterday. Now 700,000 small business loan applications are in limbo as Congress is stuck in gridlock. The Democrats in Congress, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, are blocking Republican efforts to provide the critical funding needed to get the loans and cash in the hands of small businesses.”
“The Democrats’ actions are a display of unforgivable partisanship. They are holding up funding to try and advance their own agenda. Congress needs to act immediately through unanimous consent to simply add the funding needed for the Paycheck Protect Program. At a later date, they can address additional support for hospitals and state and local governments. Right now, small businesses and workers don’t have time for their petty political games. They need help and they need it NOW!”
“Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney is one of Speaker Pelosi’s biggest supporters in the House. I call on him to end the partisan stalemate and get back to work. He needs to join me in calling for immediate increased funding for the small business loan program.”
