Ocasio-Cortez wants to go back to the days of secret waiting lists for veterans.

TUXEDO, NY– Republican Congressional candidate Chele Farley called on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her band of socialists – including Sean Patrick Maloney – to leave alone the fix Congress passed in response to the Veterans Administration (VA) crisis. At a town hall event in New York City, Ocasio-Cortez said of the VA, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” She went on to call for the end of the much-needed Veterans’ Choice Program that Congress created in wake of the 2014 scandal that exposed the many veterans having to wait more than 30 days for care.

The last Congress passed the VA Mission Act that reformed the Veterans Choice Program by streamlining processes, ending the distance requirement and authorizing $5.2 billion for the Veterans’ Choice Fund. These efforts better enabled veterans to avoid long waits for service at VA facilities and allowed them to receive care from a healthcare provider in their community. The bill also cracked down on the over-prescription of opioids.

“Ocasio-Cortez has it backwards. It WAS broke and Congress DID fix it by acting to improve care for our veterans,” stated Farley. “Now Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in the name of all things government-run, wants to rollback these reforms and return to the days where veterans had long waits to see a doctor and lacked the medical care they needed.”

“My opponent, Sean Patrick Maloney, has embraced Ocasio-Cortez’s radical brand of socialism by backing the Green New Deal. Their agenda will only hurt the men and women who fought to defend our freedoms,” claimed Farley. “I will go to Congress and put the needs of veterans ahead of socialist ideology which believes that government is the answer to all our problems. I will fight to secure the funding necessary to allow veterans to seek the healthcare they need in their own communities.”
