Chele Farley, a Republican private equity executive and fundraiser who mounted an unsuccessful challenge to U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand last fall, has set her sights on unseating a different incumbent Democrat — Hudson Valley Rep. Sean Maloney in New York's 18th district.
Farley, who has never held an elected office before, issued a press release today announcing the bid and tying Maloney to freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal:
"Sean Patrick Maloney campaigned as a centrist who would represent the needs of this district. But he broke the voters' trust when he signed onto Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal," which Farley argued would impose extra costs on taxpayers.
Maloney's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
