Farley and Grace argue that criminal illegal immigrants are prioritized over the safety of Americans
Somers, NY — Chele Chiavacci Farley, Republican candidate for Congress (NY-18), was joined today by Michael Grace, GOP candidate for Westchester County legislature, to blast Westchester County local authorities for defying a detainer request from U.S. Customs and Enforcement (ICE) and releasing an accused rapist who is in the country illegally, back into the public.
Just last month, Joaquin Rodriguez Quiroz was arrested by police in Westchester County on 3rd degree rape charges for allegedly raping a minor under the age of 17. Despite the request from ICE to detain Mr. Rodriguez Quiroz, local authorities released him after he was able to post bond. The latest reports indicate that he is still at large and still wanted by ICE.
Westchester County was designated a sanctuary county when the newly-elected Democrats on the Board of Legislators passed the Immigrant Protection Law in March 2018. Sanctuary cities and counties are local jurisdictions that obstruct federal immigration enforcement and shield criminals by refusing to comply with detainer requests from ICE officials. Detainers are requests from ICE to local authorities to hold a criminal alien for up to 48 hours after they are released, to allow ICE to take custody and initiate deportation. In this case, Rodriguez Quiroz was released into the public by the Westchester local authorities, despite the detainer request.
“We are a country of laws,” said Chele Farley. “Radical sanctuary city advocates, and open border politicians who shield criminal aliens from federal law enforcement, should be held accountable for protecting violent criminal aliens, while putting everyone else at risk. Their reckless policies endanger our communities, put innocents in harm’s way, undermine our rules of law, and are completely out of step with Hudson Valley values. There should be no sanctuary for those who come here illegally and harm our citizens. I believe that federal funding should be withheld from such cities and towns that continue to threaten the safety of their own people and am committed to fighting all efforts to undercut the enforcement of federal immigration laws against violent criminals.”
This issue is not limited to Westchester County. Just this week, we have reports that local authorities in New York City released an illegal immigrant back into the community who was convicted of child abuse and charged with sexual abuse. As a sanctuary city, New York City chose to defy a retainer request from ICE and released Grachowe Harrichand, a national from Guyana, back into the community.
"It is clear that our local authorities find it more important to pander to a far left constituency in order to hurl racist epithets at their political rivals than to protect our communities," said Michael Grace. "Those released go back to prey on their communities and in most cases these are predominantly minority communities. These policies in the long run only cause harm to those the left pretends to protect."
Chele Chiavacci Farley is a Congressional candidate for New York’s 18th District. Michael Grace is the GOP candidate for the Westchester County Legislature in District 4.
