TUXEDO, NY – Congressional candidate Chele Farley released the following statement regarding funding for the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund.
“Last week’s emotional testimony before the House Judiciary Committee shined a spotlight on the urgency for Congress to extend the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund and authorize more funding. We owe a debt of gratitude to the first responders who put their life and health on the line to rush in and save others. We will always be thankful for their heroism and actions.
The fund has begun reducing payouts due to lack of resources, while the authorization will expire in 2020. We will soon reach a tipping point where more people will have died from cancer and diseases related to the rescue efforts than were killed from the attacks on 9/11. These heroes need Democrats and Republicans in both the House and Senate to put aside the toxic fighting that is consuming Washington and shore up the fund now.”
